Test Your Backups

Today I completed a download test from one of my Storj buckets.

I want to know:

  • Can it download?
  • Does the archive hash match?

Although I am not worried about corruption, as Storj needs only 26 of the 80 segments to restore.

I have uploaded archived pictures into split archives 5 GB each, so once a month I aim to download all 25 GB of my free egress to test the file against the checksums. To determine which archive to test, I run a random number generator to choose the row in my spreadsheet contain the list of archives with hashes.

From the rclone progress below, my 150 MiB/s fibre was able to download at a respectable 16 MiB/s

Excellent news: the archive hash matched perfectly. Another example of how I am happy with Storj and feel confident in a restore.
